Portuguese people love two things more than anything: the beach and food. In this full-day journey we combine the two by finishing with a picnic on the beach. But first, we get our hands dirty.
Farmer’s markets are best in the morning, so we’ll pick you up in one of our legendary jeeps and roll straight over to hunt and gather the freshest local ingredients to craft an epic Portuguese picnic. Think cured meats, local cheese, fresh bread and ingredients for salad.
After we’ll head to our mate Joao’s farm to meet and greet his furry and feathered friends. Here you’ll learn about his animals and you’ll get to brush a donkey or pony, pet rabbits, feed a goat, say hi to sheep and see a mini pig from Vietnam. All things that make us happy!
Then we’ll swap the countryside for the coastline when we take our farmers’ market picnic to Magoito Beach. Hold on tight as we bounce along unmarked, off-road tracks away from the farm. If it’s summer feel the breeze in your hair as we cruise with the roof off, or in winter we’ll blast tunes and splash up puddles of mud. After all, we are about the journey, not just the destination.
Once we’re at the beach it’s time to relax. Together we’ll set up a picnic spread of traditional Portuguese “petiscos” (that’s our word for tapas) stacked full of all the cheese, chouriço (chorizo), bread and other market goodies you picked up earlier in the day. You can swim in the salty ocean, kick a ball on the sand, or just sit back with a few glasses of local wine. You might have 99 problems, but a beach ain’t one.
“What an amaz“What an amazing day! Bruna met us at the station in the noisiest and best jeep, and the time just flew! Bruna is so friendly and the chorizo and wine made it all the better! 10/10 would recommend.” – Beth, Feb 2020
“Besides the wonderful place that is Sintra, our guide was a great part of the trip. Friendly, funny, obviously loves his home town and is willing to do everything to make sure you are comfortable. Best day trip ever!” – Stecy, Nov 2019
“I loved it! Francisco is amazing and he made me feel comfortable from the beginning. He knows a lot about Sintra and you can feel how passionate [he is]. The riding is fun, he’s very friendly and will make you feel like traveling with a friend.” – Sibila, Sept 2019
